Coastal Interior Design For Your Home

What if you could access that light, breezy, carefree feeling that you get from being by the beach… from your home at all time? Your interior design can help do just that by incorporating some key coastal interior design elements. The Bees’ signature style is a Cape Cod classic style - our favorite!!!

But what does coastal interior design really stand for? Imagine a luxurious, chic look meeting a laid-back style. That creates the ultimate coastal design we are looking for here.

To attain that calming, stress-free, breezy feeling at home here are some elements to take into account and mix together….

Color Palette

The color palette of the coastal home will be neutral and light. Whites and beiges are a great base color to start with. From there, the Bees always add pops of colors using shades of blues, greens, or a coral but the main color should stay light and simple. You want to be able to feel that ocean breeze in the feeling of the home! Light and bright and airy!  To add beachy flair and style to your kitchen, we love wooden bar stools. Perfect for your morning coffee.

Wood finds itself in its natural habitat in a coastal interior. Natural wood tones or a white-washed wood will fit perfectly for your furniture or floor. If you don’t want to leave you natural wood floor uncovered, choose a natural rug in jute or in a coastal blue color. The Bees always prefer a nice medium-tone when it comes to floor stains, and the wider the plank, the better!

Coastal design loves open-floor plan. Take down the walls and let it flow. Bringing the indoors and outdoors together is also an excellent idea. This invites more movement and light into the space.

Speaking of light, large windows and sliding glass doors are a must to bring in as much natural light as possible. Also use minimal window treatments. Think of sheer curtains to add to the breezy movement. Or you can add a beautiful pattern with blues and greens to enhance the outdoors!

For furniture, rattan and grasscloth is a hit. It fits perfectly with the natural tones of the design and give a boutique laid-back feel to the room. Mixed with natural fabrics such as linen or cotton, it creates a very cozy and welcoming environment. And of course, pops of color help to bring the space to life!

When in doubt, get inspired by the minimalist movement: less is more. Stay away from too many decorative objets that will be overwhelming. You don’t need a beach quote and a bowl of sea shells to make your interior looks coastal. Just keep it calm and neutral!

Plants can add a pop of color in your interior. Think of big plants such as palms or go for succulents. Use a wood plant stand and a rattan planters to stay in the seaside vibe. Or, even just heading outside and picking some fresh flowers from your garden can help liven up the space! (Oh those hydrangeas!)
